Programs - Academy

The Academy program was formed to provide the Club's recreational soccer players the opportunity to receive soccer skills training from a professional trainer.  Academy training sessions are in addition to the training a player does with his or her recreational team, and the goal of the program is to provide a solid foundation of individual skills that will lead to greater success and enjoyment on the soccer field.

KANSAS RUSH YOUTH DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY

We are pleased to announce the continuation of our Youth Development Academy for the upcoming season are excited to make you aware of another great reason to sign up and participate in the Academy program this spring...

Through the years, we have watched many of our Academy participants developed into some of the best youth soccer players in the area.  The fundamental skills that they learned through Academy participation improved their individual confidence and established a crucial foundation of technique and competitive spirit.  It has been standard practice within the Kansas Rush organization to invite current U9 players to play competitive/premier soccer and receive professional staff training opportunities beginning in the fall of their U10 (typically 4th grade) season.  However, beginning Fall 2010, Kansas Rush is excited to extend the availability of our competitive soccer program to U9 as well as U10+ age groups!

Q: How does this competitive program information impact you?

A: If you are a current U8 or U9 player (2nd or 3rd grader), you will have the opportunity to tryout and participate for a Kansas Rush competitive soccer team next Fall.  Tryouts for the fall season will be held between June 12 and June 16.

Q: How is Academy relevant to the competitive program?

A: Players currently involved in our Academy program are, by the very nature of the Academy training curriculum, gaining a significant leg up on competition from other players who will be competing for roster spots within their age group.  Year after year we see the Academy players smoothly transition to the rosters of our competitive teams due to their improved individual confidence and an understanding of the fundamental ball mastery skills which are sought after come tryout time.

Q: Can you give me more information about the competitive program for next year’s U9 and U10 teams?

A: More specific information about the 2010 competitive program for all age groups will be made available as tryout time approaches.  General information regarding the Rush competitive program is available on the Kansas Rush website (http://www.kansasrush.com).

Q: Can you give me more information about the Kansas Rush Youth Development Academy?

A: Participation in the Rush Academy program helps to bring out the individual talent and develop the character of your son or daughter, helping them to unlock their fullest soccer potential.   Academy participants train and compete alongside those who share a similar desire to grow and develop into outstanding young soccer players.   Our emphasis is building individual on the ball confidence, so every Academy player is taught fundamental ball mastery techniques that allow them to feel successful when they step on the field.

Our Youth Development Academy curriculum emphasis will be learning skills to take on opponents in 1v1 and 1v2 situations and developing superior ball control under pressure.  Players will have ample opportunity to apply these skills in drills, scrimmages and games throughout the course of the season.

Q: What is the Advanced Academy program?

A: Our Youth Development Advanced Academy program expands upon the foundation of skills established through previous seasons of Academy training (Fall/Winter2009).  The Advanced Academy curriculum will emphasize taking the fundamental skills learned in previous Academy sessions (fakes, feints and control skills) and learning to apply them in small group game-centric formats (2v2, 3v3).  In order to prepare players for tryouts and future soccer opportunities, we will also spend time making sure that players have a solid understanding of basic soccer techniques (dribbling, passing, and shooting) and are developing positive training habits when using them.

Q: Who should participate in the Advanced Academy program?

A:  Advanced Academy is highly recommended to any previous academy participant who is planning to attend Rush tryouts for the fall 2010 season.   Advanced Academy is available to any players who previously participated in a full season of either fall and/or winter Academy and have developed a good comfort level with most of the various ball mastery skills learned in those sessions.  The Advanced Academy program is for U8 and U9 age players only unless otherwise agreed upon by the Academy Director.  If you are not certain if Advanced Academy is the right program for your son or daughter please send inquiries to our Youth Academy Director Aaron Payne (apayne@kansasrush.com
